Debbie Dowsett has years of professional experience in safeguarding practice in social, health and education services. Debbie Dowsett

After gaining a degree in social work, Debbie Dowsett went on to work at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, where she trained as a field social worker and lead social worker for the Head Trauma Ward. She moved on to become Principal Social Worker in the Hammersmith and Fulham Safeguarding Team and then Lead Clinician for safeguarding/parental substance misuse in a Specialist Addictions Team based in a NHS trust in East London. During this time Debbie gained the Social Work Practice Teachers Award.

Debbie now works as Lead DSL/Safeguarding Officer at St Mary’s High School, Herts and has spent the last five years introducing professional safeguarding principles and practices, with a strong focus on protecting children and staff. Debbie’s passion is ensuring that student welfare and safety remain paramount whilst allowing learners to access a full and varied education. Her wealth of experience and training in social work has allowed her to bring a fresh perspective to the staff of this school.
